Lance Robert McLendon Scholarship
A little bit about Lance…
Several years back, Lance McLendon, a young man from Birmingham, AL, was an accounting major at Troy University. Lance had Crohn’s Disease, but with perseverance and dedication was able to complete his degree. Unfortunately, in February 2001, shortly after leaving TROY, Lance died from his disease.
Lance was a quiet, introspective young man. He was shy, but always responded to a greeting with a smile. He was a young man with a great deal of courage and determination, who emanated a quiet strength.
Lance had three real loves in his life – his church, his family, and Troy University. Some summers while Lance was at TROY, he participated in the Beach project – a Christian outreach program. Lance was a warm, friendly young man of strong Christian principles. His successes in school under trying circumstances served to inspire many.
Lance also loved his family – and his family loved Lance. And Lance loved Troy University. While here, he was a member of Farm House and worked part-time in the Athletics Department.
These three loves have led his family to honor Lance’s memory by establishing this scholarship. His family wishes you to know something about their son and brother and asks that you honor his memory by working hard to do well in school and in life.
