Troy Student Publications Scholarship
Thank you for your interest in working with Troy University’s student publications. Below you will find information about our media groups and instructions for your application. You may apply specifically to one publication, or express interest in both. Students do not need to be a journalism major to apply for a scholarship position but must be willing to adhere to our code of ethics and open to learning best journalism practices and skills.
The Tropolitan is Troy University’s editorially independent student newspaper, dedicated to ethical, high-quality journalism that informs, empowers, and amplifies student voices. As both a training ground for future media professionals and a trusted source for campus news, we provide real-world experience. The Palladium is Troy University’s yearbook, dedicated to preserving the stories, achievements, and spirit of the Troy University community with integrity, accuracy and respect. We are committed to ethical and trustworthy communication, ensuring that honesty and dignity are preserved through every editorial story and photograph. Through responsible storytelling and thoughtful curation, The Palladium strives to create a lasting record that reflects the activities, values, and student body at Troy University.
Please describe why you are a good candidate for a student publications scholarship, including your experience working with the Tropolitan or Palladium, or any high school news and yearbook groups. If you don’t have previous experience working for a newspaper or yearbook, please include why you are interested in this opportunity, along with why you believe news organizations are important. Finally, please indicate what positions you are interested in holding at one or both organizations.
Editors-in-chief, business managers and marketing managers should email a cover letter, resumes, writing samples, design samples, or other materials to hcooper@troy.edu no later than 5 p.m. on April 25, in addition to completing this online application. Those leadership position applications will be reviewed by the Troy Student Publications Advisory Board and qualifying candidates selected for an interview before the end of the semester. Student publications advisers may contact writing, design and photography candidates for samples.

Position Summaries (these positions receive a scholarship, and a paid workship):
The Editor-in-Chief of The Tropolitan is the top student leader of Troy University’s independent student newspaper, responsible for overseeing all editorial operations, ensuring high journalistic standards, and upholding ethical decision-making. This role requires strong leadership, editorial vision, and the ability to manage a team of student journalists while maintaining the publication’s integrity and editorial independence.
The Editor-in-Chief of The Palladium is the top student leader responsible for overseeing the development, design, and production of Troy University’s annual yearbook. This role requires strong leadership, editorial vision, and the ability to manage a team of student editors, writers, designers, and photographers while ensuring the publication maintains high journalistic and ethical standards. The editor-in-chief works collaboratively with staff, faculty advisers, and vendors to produce a visually compelling and comprehensive record of the academic year.
The Business Manager for Troy University Student Publications will oversee the business operations of both the Tropolitan newspaper and The Palladium yearbook. This individual will play a key role in driving ad sales, managing budgets, and supporting the overall operations of the student-run media outlets. The role requires someone with strong leadership, business acumen, and the ability to work collaboratively with student editors, faculty advisers, and external partners.
The Marketing Manager for Troy University Student Publications will be responsible for developing and executing marketing strategies to promote The Tropolitan newspaper and The Palladium yearbook. This individual will work closely with student editors, faculty advisers, and external stakeholders to increase visibility, readership, and engagement across both publications. The Marketing Manager will oversee brand development and creative campaigns that promote the mission of both student media outlets.
