Mary Ann and William R Hooten Current Scholarship for Study Abroad

The purpose of the Mary Ann and William R. Hooten Study Abroad Current Scholarship will be to help fund a study abroad experience for a sophomore, junior or senior psychology major who is enrolled full-time at the Troy campus. The applicant must have completed a minimum of 30 hours of academic work at Troy University and must be able to demonstrate financial need for the award. The recipient must have and maintain a grade point average of at least a 3.0. Recipients not meeting the requirements will lose their scholarship. The recipient will be selected by a committee composed of one representative from Troy University Admissions, Troy University Foundation and the donor if they so choose.
The recipient is required to write a 2-3 page essay explaining why they want to study abroad and what they hope to achieve through the study abroad experience. They must also have a brief interview with the committee if needed.

Award recipients are expected to write a note of thanks to the scholarship donors and attend the annual Scholarship Donor/Recipient Reception. Upon returning from their trip, scholarship recipients are required to write an essay describing the study abroad trip experience and what they have learned. Students who receive the scholarship are eligible to reapply in a subsequent year if they would like to continue their studies undertaken during the first study abroad experience.In cases where it is determined that the recipient is ineligible for continuation of the scholarship, a replacement may be named, with the procedure the same as for the original recipient. Scholarship will be awarded each year and award will be made one month prior to trip.
