Selden X. Bailey Endowed Scholarship
Selden X. Bailey began his military career in 1938 when he joined the University of Alabama’s ROTC program. He went on to serve in WWII, during which Mr. Bailey volunteered to organize air-sea rescue in the southwest Pacific and was involved in every air action from New Guinea to Japan. Later, he was on the Alabama Air National Guard state staff, chaired the Third Arm Advisory Committee, and worked with the National Guard Bureau of Washington, D.C. Mr. Bailey established the Selden X. Bailey Endowed Scholarship in 2007 to be awarded to students who have successfully completed a Junior ROTC program in high school. Recipients must be full-time students attending either the Troy or Dothan campuses. Recommendations of candidates may come from the principal of any high school in the Wiregrass Region or from the University’s Scholarship Committee. Recipients must write a letter of appreciation to the donor and attend the Scholarship Donor and Recipient Reception.
